“Solving the obesity epidemic would change American medicine and American life forever. While we know Americans have their eating proclivities, a country where 2/3 of us are overweight or obese just suggests there might be something else going on. NuSI is entering a space nutrition science has not ventured before and dares to ask the question – what if diet and exercise are not enough for some people? At a time of crisis in our healthcare system we cannot just focus on reducing costs and expanding coverage. We need to address the underlying reasons why American healthcare costs so much – and obesity is one of them. This research could not come soon enough.”

Science in Progress

NuSI’s first three funded trials are designed to use varied settings and experimental conditions to provide the clearest information yet toward answering a single question—are all calories created equal? These studies are conducted with subjects in highly controlled to completely free-living conditions but share a focus on rigorously testing the effect of dietary composition on energy and weight balance. Together, they will help us better understand exactly what in our diet is contributing to metabolic disease and how we may be able to treat and prevent it.
